WHEN WE VOTE, WE WIN!

When deciding who to vote for, voters should be well informed of who’s on the ballot and how they plan to enact policy for the citizens it wants to represent.  Black Ohio Leaders For Democracy (BOLD) is committed to educating voters about candidates on all levels of the ballot.  Those who are fighting for everyone’s right to vote and the issues that matter to them and those who are not. When candidates aren’t fighting for us, we won’t stay silent.

In 2020, a small group of black leaders and activists reached thousands of voters across in Ohio, which helped to usher in candidates that swept the nation and won kept control of the US Congress and a tied US Senate. Here in Ohio, their mobilization led to the election of candidates like Jennifer Brunner to the Ohio Supreme Court bench.

Black Ohio Leaders for Democracy will reach out to voters by text message, mail or door to door. If you hear from us, we hope it helps motivate you to cast a ballot in hopes of electing candidates who will represent your best interest in government.

CREATING CHANGE FROM THE GROUND UP

Ohio is such a diverse state and black residents bring a richness to that diversity. That’s why BOLD works year-round in more than 10 local communities, acting as a hub that advocates for or against causes central to the black Ohioans. Our efforts are to coordinate programs tailored to the priorities of the people, while providing critical support for implementing mobilization efforts.

Black Ohio Leaders for Democracy (BOLD) was created because it is important for black Ohioans to raise their voice in the elections and support candidates that stand for real changes needed to make black Ohio communities better.  Our focus will be to inform and educate black voters about the need to take action on critical issues and to fight for working families, better health care, protect the environment and more – and to mobilize thousands of voters to turn out on Election Day.

BUILDING AND FLEXING OUR POWER

Change won’t happen in a single legislative session or by winning one election alone. There must be long-term roadmaps in place and critical goals set that can be evaluated and measured with an eye on strengthening leaders and building power session-by-session and election-by-election.  We began that building process in 2020 and 2021.

We will continue to identify candidates who are on the ballot who will be great policy makers on the issues important to the black community.  We will then work canvassing, calling, texting and mailing black voters about issues and election information on how we get those candidates elected to office.
